This photo is a studio photo postcard of Margaret Graham and her husband Robert Graham. Robert married Margaret on June 28, 1920 in Chicago. In Oct 1922, they relocated to the Los Angeles area.

Margaret, formerly Margaret Knowles became Margaret Jordan after her first marriage and then Margaret Graham after her 2nd marriage. Margaret regularly indicated she was born on March 19, 1878 in Montreal though her christening record indicates April 19.

Written on the back of the postcard:

Dear Will and Muriel
I know the first thing you will say when you get this is "doesn't Bob look tired," don't blame us blame the camera man. Have certainly had a fine time.
Milwaukee is a very beautiful place if can get around the nice parts and we have traveled some. Will tell you about it when we come home.
Bob and Margaret

The postcard was written in Milwaukee to William and Muriel Muriel Leonhardt. The postcard was never mailed as there is no stamp but must have been given to sister Muriel later.

A key phrase in Margaret’s note is: “Will tell you about it when we come home.”

Per Ed Jordan’s recollection, Robert and Margaret Graham visited Chicago during the summer of 1933 to attend the Chicago World’s Fair. They stayed part of the time with Herbert and Elizabeth Jordan and their three sons; Herbert was Margaret’s son. And they likely also stayed with Margaret’s sister Muriel and her husband William Leonhardt and also with Bob Graham’s sister. And perhaps also with Bill Knowles, her brother on his farm in Rock Island.

From the photo and the note, it appears Bob and Margaret also took a few days to visit Milwaukee. Assuming the year is 1933, Bob would have turned 59 in August and Margaret would have been 55 which seems reasonable for how they look in the photo.

For the three photos during Bob and Margaret Grahams’s World’s Fair visit, the exact months and days are unknown. The Fair opened May 27, 1933 and continued until Oct 31, 1934. I’ve assumed they came in the summer of 1933 and most likely in late June and/or early July as temperatures would have been more pleasant than later in July or August. The 1933 World’s Fair was located at Northerly Island near the Shedd Aquarium.

The Leonhardt family gave this photo postcard to Dave Jordan in the late 1980s. Muriel Leonhardt is Margaret Graham's sister.
